Island Bed

Approximately ten feet from the Back-of-the-House-Border is what I call the Island Bed. At least it was an island when we moved here. Since then I've removed a few feet of sod at the far end of it between the bed and the azaleas skirting a pine tree. The resulting shape makes it more a peninsula than an island.

I will try to give you views in different seasons....

I am fortunate those years when I can find college students to help me (in the red hat) give it a good cleaning before spring. I like to wear the red hat during cold weather; I think it makes me easier to find when a student is looking for me. Sometimes, I am way off down the hill or over on the steep bank or in the farthest corner.

... and from different directions.

Growing in the bed is a mélange of herbaceous perennials, spring bulbs, biennials, and hardy annuals.

Now we go across that small stretch of grass toward the Back Border. There in the glare of a rising April sun, is a small arbor.
That will be our next stop.

Do you have the feeling that we are being followed?!

I've just followed the little bee and got half way round your garden, Barbee. Now have to go. But I'll be back to finish the tour - what a great expansive feeling to be in your garden....a great joy, any time of the year.
